In Datong, a charming courtyard cafe is capturing the essence of the region with its unique locally-inspired lattes. Though small, the cafe is adorned with intricate carvings and murals reminiscent of ancient temples, offering patrons a taste of both culture and creativity.
The standout items on the menu are the locally-themed lattes: Fenjiu latte, sea buckthorn latte, and Datong latte.
The Fenjiu latte is a unique fusion of alcohol and coffee. This innovative drink starts with an espresso base, combined with ice and milk. Accompanied by a small bottle of red-capped Fenjiu and a jigger, guests can pour 15 milliliters of the aromatic spirit into their coffee at the table, creating a unique and flavorful experience.
The Datong latte, served hot, offers a traditional yet unique experience. It is presented in a traditional Chinese Gaiwan, an elegant and versatile alternative to a teapot that uses a lid to strain the leaves from brewed tea.
This latte combines osmanthus syrup, espresso, and milk froth. The froth is poured and swirled into the drink, followed by a delicate dusting of cocoa powder applied using a stencil for an artistic touch.
For those seeking a more natural taste, the sea buckthorn latte is a great choice. This drink mixes sea buckthorn juice, milk, ice, and espresso, giving it a distinct and refreshing flavor profile.
