The sixth session of the 16th People's Congress of Datong began on Jan 20, bringing together nearly 300 representatives from various sectors across the city.

The assembly aims to establish a solid foundation for the 15th Five-Year Plan and propel Datong's efforts to advance Chinese modernization.

An official delivered the government work report covering four key sections: a review of the achievements during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the guiding principles and objectives for the 15th Five-Year Plan, the work agenda for 2026, and the advancement of modernizing government governance.

The official highlighted Datong's rapid progress toward becoming a hub of energy, computing power, and culture, noting significant achievements in stimulating investment and consumption, enhancing economic performance, and transforming industries, as well as challenges in industrial structure, the private sector, and public welfare.

The official outlined the city's strategic goals for the next five years, focusing on high-tech innovation, transforming the resource-based economy, and enhancing environmental protection.

A report was also presented on the completion of 2025's well-being programs, along with an outline of candidate projects for 2026. The congress also reviewed the draft outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan, reports on the execution of the 2025 economic and social development plan, and the 2026 plan draft.
