Datong residents are now relishing the beauty of blooming spring flowers and rippling waters, experiencing an improved sense of happiness and well-being, largely due to a series of environmental protection measures.

The city's comprehensive air quality index fell to 3.26 in 2025, a 12.1 percent reduction from the previous year, with 334 days of excellent air quality, an increase of 20 days.

Authorities have implemented a series of measures, including ozone pollution prevention, ultra-low emission upgrades in the cement industry, comprehensive management of coal-fired boilers, and reforms in traditional industrial clusters.

Datong has also fast-tracked its transition to clean heating through "coal-to-electricity" conversions and implemented a precise, grid-based management system for construction site dust, road dust, and straw burning.

The city also employs the "Internet + Supervision" model to accurately predict and trace pollution sources and transmission channels.

New energy buses are a common sight in the city, and an increasing number of residents are cycling or walking to work. Meanwhile, environmental volunteers go to the countryside on weekends to plant trees, pick up litter, and promote environmental conservation, fostering a culture of low-carbon living among the community.

In rural areas, initiatives such as straw utilization and clean heating conversions are progressing steadily, reducing air pollution and improving residents' life quality.
