Datong unveils plan to enhance elderly care services
Datong has announced plans to develop elderly care facilities by 2035, aimed at improving the quality and accessibility of services for its senior citizens over the next decade.
This initiative is designed to align with the city's demographic trends, urban growth, and the practical needs of its aging population, with the goal of standardizing, enhancing, and expanding the reach of elderly care services.
Key targets include increasing the capacity of elderly care institutions to 15,000 beds by 2030 and ensuring comprehensive community-based services in central urban areas. By 2035, this capacity is expected to grow to 20,000 beds, with over 80 percent of communities offering basic elderly care services.
The plan adopts a phased approach to facility development, aiming to address existing infrastructure and service coverage gaps.
A core principle of the plan is the collaborative involvement of government, society, families, and individuals, each fulfilling their respective roles. It encourages participation from professional elderly care institutions, service companies, and internet platform enterprises in delivering these services.
Datong aims to establish a comprehensive system that covers home-based, community-based, and institutional care scenarios, catering to the diverse needs of its elderly population.
This initiative integrates with the city's broader health and wellness industry plan, creating a synergistic system that includes urban comprehensive wellness, international climate wellness at Sanggan Lake, and volcanic hot spring wellness around volcanic clusters.
This plan is also designed to attract elderly visitors from the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and beyond, achieving a focus on enhancing elderly care while developing the wellness industry.
