Datong offers a captivating blend of stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage in autumn, with the city's eight major attractions welcoming 1.92 million visitors during the recent National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7.

At the Yungang Grottoes, visitors marveled at the majestic Buddha statues, explored the site's rich history, and engaged in hands-on activities such as clay sculpture-making.

Hengshan Mountain's bright autumn colors invited tourists to enjoy the seasonal splendor. At Huayan Temple, visitors wandered among ancient structures and experienced the cultural heritage of the Liao (916-1125) and Jin (1115-1234) dynasties.

Other sites, including Shanhua Temple and the Drum Tower, bustled with activity, offering opportunities to appreciate traditional architecture and explore ancient inscriptions.

The city also launched a series of cultural activities, including performances and light shows, blending ancient charm with modern trends.

Public events such as karaoke and talent showcases encouraged active participation, allowing locals and tourists to showcase their talents and connect through art.

Many visitors also chose rural tours in nearby counties and countryside areas instead of major tourist attractions, with activities such as hiking or cycling along the Datong section of the Great Wall and savoring local delicacies.
