Yungang Grottoes cultural and art exhibition opens in Macao
The Yungang Grottoes cultural heritage and art exhibition opened on Oct 13 in Macao, marking the first time this cultural treasure has been showcased in a large-scale special exhibition format at a Macao university.
The event signifies the beginning of a strategic partnership between the Yungang Grottoes and University of Science and Technology MUST.
The exhibition is organized around five themes, including exquisite craftsmanship, cultural exchanges, and preservation and inheritance, presenting the historical evolution, artistic essence, and conservation efforts of the Yungang Grottoes.
Through a blend of digital technology and artistic installations, the exhibition highlights the artistic styles of the grottoes — from the grandeur of Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) imperial architecture to the intricate fusion of Eastern and Western cultures and innovative modern digital preservation practices.
Liu Chak Wan, chancellor of MUST, emphasized that the Yungang Grottoes are a treasure of Chinese culture, with preservation being a top priority. He expressed a strong commitment to heritage preservation and cultural continuity.
He Jianguo, deputy director of the Yungang Grottoes, expressed hope that the exhibition would strengthen collaboration with MUST in areas such as academic research, heritage display, and talent development.
Yungang Grottoes and MUST signed a cooperation framework agreement and exchanged commemorative gifts to advance the preservation of cultural heritage, providing new approaches to creative transformation and the innovative development of China's outstanding traditional culture.
