Linfen city boasts favorable conditions for agricultural production, focusing primarily on grain and various cash crops, with high land productivity and abundant agricultural and sideline products. The central Linfen Basin, in particular, has earned a reputation as a "land of abundance" and the "home of cotton and wheat", thanks to its fertile soil, mild climate, and rich natural resources. 

Linfen produced 865,000 metric tons of wheat in 2023, accounting for 35 percent of Shanxi province's output; 1.2 million tons of corn, representing 11.6 percent of the provincial total; 15,000 tons of oil crops, making up 8.5 percent of the province's output; and 1.3 million tons of orchard fruits, contributing 13.3 percent of the provincial total. Linfen is one of Shanxi's major wheat production hubs. Its dried and fresh fruits primarily include red dates, walnuts, apples, hawthorns, persimmons, and peppercorns.
