Huozhou, a county-level city in the south-central region of Shanxi province, covers an area of 765 square kilometers. It administers seven townships, and five urban communities, with a total population of 273,000.
Renowned for its stunning natural beauty and ecological environment, Huozhou is home to Huoshan Mountain, which spans 300 sq km to the east of the city and boasts a forest coverage rate exceeding 95 percent. This area has been honored as a “China Natural Oxygen Bar” by the China Meteorological Administration. The Fenhe River flows from north to south through the western part of Huozhou, stretching 30 kilometers. As an important resource-based city in Shanxi, Huozhou is home to over 20 discovered mineral resources, with coal being the most prominent. It hosts more than 280 industrial enterprises, including major players such as Huozhou Coal and Electricity Group, Guodian Huozhou Power Plant, and Shanxi Zhaoguang Power Plant. Huozhou leads the nation in coal machinery manufacturing, particularly in intelligent remanufacturing, and stands as a key power generation hub in Shanxi. Its abundant mineral resources and coal-power advantages provide strong support for industrial development. Currently, Huozhou has established an industrial system dominated by the coal, power, and equipment manufacturing industries.
Huozhou also enjoys a strategic geographic advantage. Located in the Fenwei Plain at the heart of the Shanxi-Shaanxi-Henan Yellow River Golden Triangle and Guanzhong Plain, it serves as the geometric center of Taiyuan, Xi’an, and Zhengzhou, making Huozhou a vital transportation hub in Shanxi province.
