The Huozhou Ancient Government Office is the earliest and most well-preserved ancient prefectural-level government office in China. Located on East Street in Huozhou Old Town, it spans a total area of 72,200 square meters and is notable for its grand scale.

The existing main lobby was originally constructed during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), making it one of the three surviving prefecture and county office lobbies from this period in Shanxi province.
The office underwent successive reconstructions during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties, as well as after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Recent investments have focused on restoring and exhibiting key structures along its central axis and surrounding areas, with the current exhibition area covering 20,441 sq m.
In November 1996, it was designated as a national key cultural relic protection site by the State Council. In 2023, it was further recognized as a 4A-level scenic attraction.
The Huozhou Ancient Government Office not only reflects the architectural achievements of its era, but also offers a glimpse into the administrative and cultural traditions of ancient China.
