Yicheng county

Yicheng county, located in southern Shanxi province, lies at the intersection of Linfen, Jincheng, and Yuncheng. It spans 1,170 square kilometers and includes nine townships and 146 administrative villages, with a total population of 260,000.

Rich cultural heritage

Yicheng boasts a profound cultural legacy, being the birthplace of Emperor Tangyao and the cradle of the Jin State (1033 BC-376 BC). Emperor Yao, one of the Five Emperors in early Chinese history, first established Yicheng as his capital under the name “Tang”. This historic land has been the stage for numerous famous allusions and legends. The county is home to nine national-level cultural preservation units, three national intangible cultural heritage projects, one nationally recognized historic and cultural town, three historic and cultural villages of China, and 15 traditional Chinese villages. Known as the “Hometown of Folk Culture and Art” for its Flower Drum traditions, Yicheng offers a glimpse into ancient Chinese customs and folklore.

Stunning natural scenery

Yicheng offers a blend of natural beauty and cultural richness. Key scenic spots include Lishan Mountain, renowned as the “Source of the Calendar” and a “Natural Oxygen Bar”; Gongde Mountain, overlooking the river with striking vistas; Mianshan Mountain of the Jin Dynasty (265-420), steeped in history with tales like “Retiring with His Mother”; Xiangshan Mountain and Foye Mountain, rich in religious heritage; Tianchi Mountain, known for its crystal-clear waters that remain full year-round. These sites not only captivate with their natural beauty, but also carry deep historical and cultural significance.

Strong industrial foundation 

Yicheng benefits from abundant coal and iron resources, with a long-standing smelting and casting industry that offers distinct advantages for industrial development and transfer. The “Yicheng Model” of agricultural production trust system has been recognized as a national success story, and its wheat yields have led the province for four consecutive years. Yicheng millet is celebrated for its golden color and rich aroma; Yicheng apples are known for their vibrant color, high sugar content, and national geographical indication certification; forsythia spans 740,000 mu (around 50 hectares), a cornerstone of local agriculture; As for Elaeagnus mollis, Yicheng accounts for half of the national production, earning it the title “Hometown of Elaeagnus Mollis in China”; pearl corns are recognized as one of China’s top ten excellent agricultural germplasm resources.

Promising development potential

Yicheng is poised for growth, with major projects such as the Jinnan Iron and Steel Yicheng Base, Minguang Carbon Anode Material Project, and the Huaxiang 200,000-metric-ton New Materials Science Park progressing steadily. These initiatives are shaping a robust industrial landscape. The county is also building a regional public brand, “Yicheng Excellent Product”, alongside a dedicated brand for forsythia medicinal tea.
