A recent video featuring Zhang Shiyang, director of the Pingding investment promotion center, has captured significant attention on social media. In the video, Zhang speaks fluent English with foreign investors, underscoring the county's efforts to use its rich historical and cultural heritage to attract international businesses.

Zhang, a graduate of Newcastle University with a degree in Intercultural Communication and Media Studies, exemplifies a new generation of young, professional investment promotion teams in Pingding. Her approach signifies a strategic shift towards enhancing foreign investor confidence through better communication.

Pingding is renowned for its historical landmarks, such as the Niangziguan Pass and the ancient Guguan Great Wall. The county is building a robust platform to support foreign enterprises, attracting leading companies like SGL Carbon and BTR. This initiative is fostering the development of a "New Energy Battery Town".

SGL Carbon, a key player in the initiative, operates one of its two Chinese plants in Pingding. Since its establishment in 2007, the company has significantly expanded its production capacity. Similarly, Almamet Shanxi Desulfurization Technology Co, a subsidiary of the German multinational founded in 1984, is developing a major magnesium-based desulfurization agent project in Pingding.

The county is focusing on key industrial chains, including new energy batteries and chemical new materials. Nearly 20 related enterprises have set up operations in the area, forming a robust industrial cluster. Pingding now boasts impressive production capacities of various materials, with industrial output reaching 1 billion yuan ($136.83 million) in 2024.

Zhang emphasizes the importance of utilizing new media platforms and bilingual communication to showcase Pingding's resilience, enthusiasm, and pragmatism to the world. "Through bilingual investment promotion, we aim to tell Pingding's story and highlight China's potential. We invite more international friends to explore opportunities in Pingding, while also enhancing our cultural exchanges," Zhang said.
